What is the ERC tax credit?

The Employee Retention Credit (ERC) is a payroll tax refund of up to $26,000 per employee as a COVID relief bill that incentivized businesses that kept employees on payroll during the pandemic. Your business can claim ERC even if you received PPP funds.

Who can receive the ERC tax credits?

Employers in Utah and Salt Lake City can generally receive ERC refunds even if they have received one or multiple Payroll Protection Loans (PPP loans).

Most Employers are eligible to receive credit in any eligible quarter Q2 2020 through Q3 2021.

New businesses started after February 15th, 2020 (referred to as “Recovery Startup Businesses”) may be eligible to take the credit in Q3 and Q4 2021.

Eligibility is determined by quarter. Even if you only qualify for one quarter, the refund could still be substantial.

Most companies that qualify for one quarter also qualify for another quarter.

  • The credit could be as much as:

  • $5,000 per employee in 2020

  • $21,000 per employee in 2021
